Privacy Policy
The short version: the rent calculator runs entirely inside your browser and sends nothing anywhere. The only personal information we ever receive is an email address, and only if you type one into the waitlist form yourself. We do not sell data, and there is nothing to sell.
Who we are
RentGuard CA ("RentGuard", "we", "us") operates rentguardca.com, a free California rent-increase calculator and a set of compliance guides for landlords. Questions about this policy: [email protected].
What the calculator does with your inputs
Nothing leaves your device. The zip code, county, city, rent amount, effective date, tenant name, and property address you type into the calculator or the notice generator are processed by JavaScript running in your own browser. They are never transmitted to us, never written to a server, and never stored anywhere but in the page you have open. Close the tab and they are gone.
This is a deliberate design choice, not an oversight. Rent figures and tenant names are sensitive, we have no need for them, and the safest data is data we never receive.
What we actually collect
If you join the waitlist
We receive the email address you type in, and the optional referral code if one was passed in the link you arrived from. That is the entire record. We use it for exactly one thing: to email you once when founding-member accounts open. We do not send a newsletter, we do not send marketing sequences, and we do not share the list.
Waitlist submissions are processed and stored by Netlify, our hosting provider, in their Forms product. Netlify's privacy policy governs their handling: netlify.com/privacy.
Server logs
Netlify records standard web-server request logs, which include IP address, timestamp, requested URL, and browser user-agent. These are generated automatically by the act of serving a web page, are used for security and troubleshooting, and are retained on Netlify's schedule. We do not analyze them to build profiles of visitors.
What we do not collect
- No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no pixel, and no heatmap tool on this site.
- No tracking cookies. We set no cookies at all.
- No accounts. There is no login, so there are no account records.
- No payment data. Nothing is for sale yet; we have never handled a card.
- No third-party fonts, scripts, or embeds that would report your visit to another company.
Local storage on your own device
We use your browser's localStorage for a few small preferences.
This data lives on your computer, is readable only by this site, and is never sent to us:

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it, with no effect beyond forgetting your theme preference.
Advertising
There are currently no ads on this site. The pages contain reserved empty spaces where advertising may appear later, but no ad network is connected and no ad code runs today.
If we do introduce advertising, we will update this policy before it goes live and say plainly which network is involved and what it collects. Third-party ad networks typically set their own cookies and use device identifiers for ad selection and measurement, which is a meaningful change from the current situation — so it will not happen silently. Paid subscribers, when subscriptions exist, will not be shown ads at all.
Your California privacy rights
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, California residents have the right to know what personal information a business collects, to request its deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we never have. We do not use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we collect so little, most requests resolve quickly:
- To know what we hold: email us and we will tell you. In practice it is either "your email address and the date you joined the waitlist" or "nothing".
- To be deleted: email us and we will remove your waitlist entry. No verification hoops — you are asking us to delete an email address, and the request will come from that address.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. Send requests to [email protected].
If you are outside the United States
This site is aimed at California landlords and our servers are in the United States. If you are in the EEA or UK, our lawful basis for processing a waitlist email address is your consent, given by submitting the form, and you may withdraw it at any time by asking us to delete the entry. You also have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and portability, and may complain to your local supervisory authority.
Children
This site is intended for adults managing rental property. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted an email address, tell us and we will delete it.
Security and retention
The site is served over HTTPS. Waitlist entries are kept until founding-member accounts open and the launch email has been sent, or until you ask us to delete yours, whichever comes first. Since the calculator transmits nothing, there is no body of user data to breach — the worst case is the exposure of an email list.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — in particular if we add analytics, advertising, or accounts — we will update the "last updated" date at the top and describe what changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
